Spring is finally here, and this year we want to help you have a greener and healthier lawn. How do you achieve this? The Custom Lawn Team put together our best tips to help homeowners achieve a green, green lawn.
Mow Your Way to a Greener Lawn
Regular maintenance is required if you want a spectacular lawn, and that includes routine mowing. But make sure you are mowing correctly.
The mowing technique you use is very important to achieve the desired outcome. Make sure your mower blades are sharp, and not rusted. This will ensure a clean cut to your grass blades. Dull mower blades cause the grass to split and brown on the ends.
Also, make sure you don’t cut your grass too short. This can actually do a lot of damage to your lawn, by putting extra strain on the roots, which makes it more susceptible to drying out and browning. Use the rule of one third – never cut off more than one third of the length of the blades of grass.
Fertilize Right for a More Beautiful Olathe Yard
Fertilizing is a must. It strengthens roots, promotes growth, and helps to prevent weeds and pests. Make sure you pick the right fertilizer, though. Look for products that include the three most important ingredients; nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium.
And their ratio is also important. It should be close to 15-5-10, respectively. To get the whole lowdown on how to fertilize the right way, and when, read this blog article: Want a Greener Lawn? . . . How to Know When to Fertilize.
Be Smart & Irrigate Like a Pro
Water your lawn too little, and you end up with brown, patchy grass. Water your lawn too much though, and you still end up with an undesirable outcome. You need to find your lawn’s sweet spot and keep it looking luscious and green.
Many people set their sprinkler system on an automatic controller, so that it waters their lawn on a regular schedule. But this could actually be hurting your lawn and costing you more money than you need to be spending.
Instead, watering schedules should be established on the Evapotranspiration (ET) rate for your area. Here at Custom Lawn & Landscape, Inc., we are able to calculate just how much water your landscape really needs throughout the season.
